For the last five days I have been working with Ben Norton from Out Filming at Kingfisher B&Q Headquarters making the promotional video for their new set of applications. The video is to be shown at the Paris show next week to demonstrate how there latest file sharing will work to connect employees. This was an exciting shoot to work on because of the very quick turn around from idea to completion in a short amount of time and a limited access to locations. It is always interesting to work with Ben as he comes up with creative ways to help situations and the product always looks great as an outcome. We had in Sam Wilkins on animation and it was fascinating to see what he achieved in the short time he had.

For the past couple of days I have been working at Goldsmith's University for Talent TV South with Fran Mattinson who I met on the set of Monster Truck Mayhem. We have been filming the workshops and interviews to create summary videos and to promote creative skillset. We broke into three crews to film the workshops and I assisted Camera Operator Don from Sweet Pictures with Lucy Purnell as director. The workshops were very interesting from my point of view as Bournemouth University are involved in creative skillset and it is something I was aware of while at University and was seeing it from a different perspective. We also got to see an interesting talk by David Abraham CEO of Channel Four. Not only was the content interesting we had a great crew Valentines day meal!...
Today I was on shot with Don from Sweet Pictures, Simon Green from Greenrock and Ben Taggart filming interviews at RBS to regain customer trust on the dramatic day of their Libor fine. It was very interesting to be at the heart of what was happening. I assisted the production and filmed second camera with the F800 with Don on the 5D and slider and the view made for some lovely shots from the RBS building.
Today Go Media teamed up with New Zealand company Mediawave Productions to film an interview with Tommy Sopwith about America's Cup in his English country house. We filmed on two P2 cameras with one on a track and it was lit very dramatically which was an interesting set up to work with. It was very interesting to hear his views and about his father Thomas Sopwith and his experiences in the war. Once again it was great to team up with Go Media.
Today I was assisting Big Ben and Bryony on the BU research shoot. It's been an interesting project to work on with everything shot in super slow motion on the FS700. Today was a great one as we were shooting senior lecturer Sean Beer with a Champagne bottle opening in super slow motion which looked fantastic. However this was not the only exciting part of the day - we were working in a building just across from the Sunseeker factory in Poole when it suddenly caught on fire. Being there when it happened we quickly got some snaps of the scene and my pictures were used by ITV Meridian and can be seen on the following link! - http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/update/2013-01-29/dramatic-pictures-from-yacht-factory-fire/ - Had we not been working we would have loved to get some super slow mo fire shots - (once we knew everyone was safe of course!)
Today was my last day working with Sweet Pictures. It was a very busy day being the live show day at Santa Pod raceway. Our usual quiet nearly abandoned track was instead heaving with fans. The atmosphere was brilliant and as the stunts Terry Grant and Tony Dixon were performing have never been done before the audience reaction was great. It was sad that it was the last day as the crew were a fantastic bunch of talented friendly people. As well as meeting new people it was nice to see three of the people I worked with at the Olympics; Don (Director), big Ben (slow motion camera Sony FS700) and little Ben on GoPro’s. I learnt a lot working on this production; about how 3D is filmed and about stunt driving! To top it off we had an interesting wrap party with the crew and hope to stay in contact and see what they’re all up to the future!
Over the last few days I have been working with Red Balloon the crew including Big Ben and his FS-700, production manager Bryony and director Andy. The aim was to film academics in their workplace in super slow motion to promote the research at Bournemouth University. It was an interesting shoot, going to many different locations to see the researchers in their subjects environment. So there was a great deal of variety. It was also eye opening to see the amount of different research that goes on within the university. As always it was great to see the FS-700 doing its super slow motion as it always produces such wonderful images.
Today was my first day as a camera assistant working with Sweet Pictures on an exciting 3D project for Discovery called Monster Truck 3D. Where stunt driver Terry Grant has teamed up with monster truck driver Tony Dixon to create some new and exciting stunts. I am working as a camera assistant and it is my first experience in 3D production which is very exciting. When I arrived 3D camera man Tim gave me a crash course in 3D which was very interesting to see how different it is from 2D production. The first day was very eye opening not only in the organisation of the production but also the stunts. The combination of monster truck and stunt car worked so well producing stunts the world has never seen before and I can’t wait till tomorrow for it to continue.
The Olympics were an amazing two and a half weeks. I met a great team of people doing very interesting camera work who I intend to keep in touch with. I got used to the idea of being on the water very quickly and really enjoyed the atmosphere and being in the best spots for viewing the Olympians. The camera assistants rotated so I spent a few days on land which turned out to be a really interesting experience seeing the OB truck in operation and I got to edit the worldwide sailing highlights. My other land day I got to film the official IBC video for next years Olympics. I had so many good experiences but what really made it was the team… and whizzing around on a rib everyday!
Today was my first day at the Olympics. I arrived in Weymouth for an early start where I was briefed on where I would be assigned for the next two and a half weeks. In September I trained with OBS as a Camera Assistant and was delighted to be assigned to the ENG crew assisting on a rib on the water. I am working with a few people I have worked with previously, Ben Norton, Joel Davies and Steve Adams and the rest of the crew are a good bunch of people so I look forward to spending the next few weeks with them! We went out after lunch for a rehearsal with our boat drivers and practiced with the Star Class sailing. The weather was fantastic and our boats allow us very close to the Olympic Sailors which is great. The experience is wonderful and your skill and balance are tested on the choppy waves. I am very much looking forward to GB's Ben Ainslie's practice race in the Finn Class tomorrow. Below is the Stars line up before their race today.
